With over thirty years of experience designing, building and renovating homes along the North Shore, including Lake Forest, Highland Park and Lincoln Park, Ken Hazlett has established a reputation for creating timeless, luxurious residences. He is also known for his sensitivity to the context of the site and the surrounding neighborhood, and his ability to transform spaces into unique works of art.
As a result, his clients often return to him for additional projects. Whether it’s a new construction or the renovation of an existing home, Hazlett’s goal is to create a space that meets the specific needs of each client. He takes the time to listen to his clients’ vision and translate that into a finished product that exceeds expectations.
In addition to his work in architectural design, Hazlett is active in the academic community and is a founding member of UNO’s Nepalese Student Association and an Advisor for the University’s international exchange programs. He has taught American literature at the university level since 1987, and his research interests include American Literature and Culture, Literary Theory, and World Studies.
A multi-disciplinary artist, Ellie Hazlett explores the relationship between form and function through a variety of mediums to construct unique works of art that transform spaces and perspectives. She experiments with textures and materials to alter environments and evoke specific emotions. Ultimately, her work reflects sociopolitical issues regarding gender, privilege, and positionality.
With over 17 years of business management and sales experience, Margi Hazlett brings a wealth of knowledge to the real estate industry. Her strong negotiation skills, hard-working personality and attention to detail are invaluable assets for her clients. She believes that educating her clients is the most important step in the real estate process, and takes pride in making sure they are well-informed throughout the entire transaction.
Located on the corner of Greensburg’s historic Allegheny Square 6, the Hazlett House is one of the city’s most recognized architectural landmarks. It was built in 1889 as the first Carnegie Music Hall and was dedicated by President Benjamin Harrison. The Music Hall was a gathering place for Jehovah’s Witnesses and served as a center of education and worship.
This beautiful home of hard-pressed red brick is distinguished by its rounded front bay, a small octagonal tower rising from the juncture of the two arms of the facade, and an ornate circular beveled glass panel at the entrance door. A sculptural plaque above the inglenook fireplace depicts blacksmiths at work, suggesting that the home’s owner, Edward Hazlett, invested in the iron industry. The stairway is unique in that it features a spindled screen instead of traditional balusters.
